This morning was sunny. Buildings appeared to be sharper than normal under the brilliant shunshine. The Islamic Bank Building at Douglas Road looked prominent under the blue sky. It aged about 20 years, originally white in color & recently re-coated in beige. The building is quite unique with the mixture of Islamic & modern architecture.
Ipoh public transport has not been upgraded for decades. After years of talking, finally we see some realistic changes. The existing city public transport companies join venture to run a combined service, so called Perak Transit. The process of transforming Ipoh buses from old to new will be carried out in phases. The first batch of new bus appear in pink color start runing on the road few months ago serving intertown routes. Hopefully the transformation will be conducted successfully to provide citizen of Ipoh a comfortable & safe ride.
The weather is mostly cloudy and rainy in the recent days. Direct sunlight only appear for short while or not even a single hour in a day. Anyway, a nice blue sky is seen this morning and lasts till afternoon. The skyline looked clear in the fresh atmosphere and under the brilliant sunlight. Government offices along Douglas Road (Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab) have been closed since last Friday (a special holiday for Malaysia winning a regional football championship) and traffic in this Sunday is quite relaxing. However, the day ended up a thunder storm & downpour in the evening. Several lower grounds even suffer disaster of flooding. It seems we will continue dealing with the rainy days for some time.
Perak state is commonly known as the silver state in Malaysia ("perak" means silver in Bahasa Malaysia). Today's sunset appears to be silvery and become a nice background to the silver state's administration center, state secretariat building which carries the remarkable great purple roofing.
To many other cities, high rise building construction is just very common & tower cranes are normally seen here & there. As in Ipoh, high rise building is not a trend of development. We don't always see tower crane in the city. However, we have recently 5 tower cranes appear at the same time for 3 construction projects (Kinta Riverfront, MH Tower, Medical college at Greentown). I think this has not happened before as I remember the most we have is only 3 cranes at a time. This may not be a measurement on the growth of Ipoh but just to share my taughts where I believe someone may not realize.
The consrtuction of Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites is progressing. I can see the second tower crane is also working on the hotel block while the apartment block has reached 16th floor. The city skyline is changing and soon we will see these two new landmark buildings (apartment & hotel)standing at the height of 19 and 20 floors respectively. Despite the number of floors is surpassing all high rise buildings in the city (except the 20-storey Kinta Heights), it's height above sea level is most probably still not a breakthrough due to the building height limit set by Department of Civil Aviation, DCA.
Douglas Road (Jalan Panglima Bukit Gandang Wahab) has the most government offices in Ipoh. Many years ago, before some departments moved out from here, this is the hub of Federal & State government administration in Ipoh since the British colonial age. This is Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, the state secretariat building & the State Assembly Hall, which completed about 10 years ago. The most unique part is the giant purple roof top that sometimes reflects sunlight like a crystal.
