Ipoh has been granted city status for 24 years. The city council is called "Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh" and its abbreviation, MBI is very familiar among Ipoh citizens nowadays. But in those years between 1962 to 1988, when it was operating as a municipal council, people known it as "Majlis Perbandaran Ipoh" (MPI). Since the city status obtained almost a quarter century ago, we can hardly find documents or items with MPI at present day. But this sewage system cover caught my eyes while I was walking on the road nearby Silibin. For those infrastructures that existed since the municipal council time, it's marked with "MPI". Well, the elder generation would certainly remember this.
The skyline of Ipoh city center has changed. Added with 3 new towers, which appeared on the left of the this photo, the height of high rise building in Ipoh is reaching its limit set by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA). Apparently the 2 blocks of Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suite are now the tallest buildings. I have waited many years for this moment to snap Ipoh skyline from this location, on a bridge of Ipoh-Lumut Highway nearby Silibin junction. It is now possible because I have got my higher power zoom lens. However, the atmosphere is not favor to me in capturing a clearer view. The image of high rise buildings & the mountains at background.is either not sharp or nearly invisible.
The famous fast food restaurants are really trying to conquer every corners of Ipoh. One after another restaurants started operating in just one year. On top of the area with most new restaurants opened, Gunung Rapat, there are also less popular or unexpected spots seen to have new fast food outlet, such as the KFC and Pizza Hut in Tasek. As for Domino's Pizza, it has established 3 new restaurants in Ipoh in just 4 months. One of it located along Silibin Road which is lack of restaurant. I believe the battle still not over, there will be more to come sharing the piece of cake in Ipoh & its surroundings.
A bad habit of Malaysian is littering. When economic growth surpasses humanity advancement, we will encounter social corruptions & environmental damages. People over consuming resources & putting a large portion of it for unnecessary purposes, or in other word is just wasting. Many things, especially packaging materials, are just become rubbish after being used only once. And that's why we find so many illegal rubbish dumps appear in the city nowadays. The worst scenario is seen in this photo where rubbish dump is burning openly causing serious air pollution & releasing harmful gas to the environment. The worrying fact is not only the failure of local authorities & government to clear the rubbish, but the neglectful attitude & low awareness of people on environment & resources preservation.
Iron lamppost was the standard street light used in town about 30 years ago. I guess the official colour of city council during that period is orange, because we found orange colour was widely used on items related to the council, such as street fencing, garbage truck, council’s truck, lamppost & even worker’s uniform. The orange lamppost was installed in most of the downtown streets & the trunk roads. However, it had been replaced by aluminium street light over the years. What we are seeing at the junction of Silibin Road & Maxwell Road is probably the last of the orange lamppost in Ipoh. Soon, it will follow the fate of its siblings, to be replaced by new street light in the road upgrading program. Despite there could be some standalone survivors still remain in isolated areas, the orange lamppost has already captured as the city’s history.
Labu Sayong is a famous traditional water container made in clay that produced at Sayong, near the royal town of Perak, Kuala Kangsar. It is normally burnt to black that gives the ability to cool its content quickly. There are beautiful engraved patterns on Labu Sayong that makes it a unique & attractive handicraft product. The authorities have put this giant sculpture of Labu Sayong (although not as beautiful as a real one) many years ago at the roundabout of Silibin Road & Jelapang Road conjunction as street decoration. This is also promoting the product which is pride of Perak. It even serves as a local landmark that guides visitors who are entering from Jelapang gateway towards city center.
How hot is the weather? It is this hot where the couch grass in front of the factory is almost completely dried out & can be easily ignited by stub. With strong wind blowing, the fire is rapidly spread across the field & leaving ashes on its path. This is only one of many cases that happen everywhere in the city & yet only a small scale. There could be serious wild fire burning grass & tree where the thick smoke can be seen from miles away.
The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes at Silibin Road is beautifully decorated with light bulbs during Christmas & New Year. The church was so crowded on Christmas Eve and had made the surrounding a joyful environment.
After a day of hard work, it's time to take a rest. The birds are lining up on a electric cable in front of the factory. Just like us, it's time to put down the work pressure and go home for a relaxing evening.
Silibin Road (Jalan Silibin) appears in my life since I was born. Although I spent few years away from Ipoh for further study, and moving to new house in Klebang few years ago, at last I am back driving daily on Silibin Road to work. Well, I may thaught I have progressed far but seem like I am moving back to the same point.
Dark cloud was covering almost the whole city this morning. The hazy atmosphere since last is totally being washed away by the heavy rain. The sky turn become crystal clear in the afternoon that make me feel so good & fresh even standing under the hot sun :-) 
The most common word we use since the last few weeks is “hot”. It has been many sunny days until this afternoon. The day turned cloudy after lunch time and rain for a short while soon after that. Anyway, the small rain did not cool down the environment but unleash the heat at ground and make the condition warmer and more humid. 
A colleague had received a bouquet of flower today and she decided to share it to the floor. Another creative girl had transferred it into several vases & decorating the office. Well, this is the one I have, isn’t it nice :-)
Silibin Road is a main connecting road between Ipoh city and the North West areas, such as Silibin, First Garden & Jelapang, Somehow it is not well developed. Even with heavy traffic, it is still maintain as single-lane traffic at each direction and the condition is quite poor. There is no impressive building along Silibin road except this church, Church of Our Lady Of Lourdes. This is one of the biggest churches in Ipoh & the tall tower is visible from far. The church is usually crowded during Sunday morning.
I was driving on Silibin Road. When approaching the junction to First Garden, I see this high voltage cable & the power substation which I have seen for over 30 years. However, something different comes to my mind this time; we were participating Earth Hour last night, but how many of us really persist in energy saving to reduce natural resources consumption to safe our planet? Last night we turn off the lights on ourselves, will one day mother nature turn it off for us?
It is often to see white clouds surrounding the hills after raining over the night. This is seen while departing to Kuala Lumpur for a working trip.
Today is my first working day in the new company. It marks a new milestone in my career life. Wish me good luck :-)
