Kinta City New Look

It seems the major renovation of Kinta City is coming to the final stage. The painting work of the facade is almost finished, which seen with very different look from its previous appearance that maintained for 19 years. Probably this is the right time for Kinta City to put on new dress for celebrating its 20th anniversary. By the way, I find the random lines painted on the mall surface also seen on Aeon Klebang. Could this be a designated pattern of Aeon Malls in Ipoh?

Cloudless Sunset

The cloudless day is finally over. In order to stay away from the torturing warm and humid atmosphere, spending time (and money) in shopping centers would probably be the best solution in this Sunday.

Scar On the Hill

I am wondering why someone need to damage the hill around Ipoh while the valley has plenty of empty land for development. From Kinta City, I saw this serious scar on Kledang Hill making me sad & angry. These mountains play the role as the lung of our city and it is so beautiful to be seen as giant green belt that surrounding us. Unfortunately there are more and more construction projects, quarries have conquered the hills at Kledang Permai, Meru Raya and Lahat. I hope the authorities shall put a stop on this kind of damage and set stricter rules in preserving the hill forest.

"Jusco" In Memory

The Japanese retail giant, Jusco has been restructured some time ago and currently owned by Aeon. Since then, the shopping centres in the group are gradually changing its name from Jusco to Aeon. Kinta City Shopping Centre was well known to Ipoh citizen as Jusco and the giant tower signboard that carried the logo of Jusco had been a landmark since 1997. It is now Kinta City's turn to carry out the change followed by the switch of owner. Logo of "Jusco" has been dismantled from the tower signboard and logo of "Aeon" will be installed soon. Nevertheless, I believe most Ipohite will continue to call this Jusco and many find that it's easier to differentiate Kinta City from Aeon Station 18.

Evening Storm from North

The sky turns dark in the evening and I was chased by the rain which from north while on my way to an appointment. When arriving Kinta City, I found the storm has drenched the northern part of the city and approaching rapidly. Anyway, this is going to cool the earth down and bring us a refreshing night for a nice sleep.

Long Weekend Congestion

Many people will enjoy a long weekend because Monday is a replacement holiday for Thaipusam which falls on Sunday. As usual, going back hometown or having a short trip to other town is most Malaysian's choice. This always gets Ipoh packed with visitors and cars, especially at the famous eatery area and shopping centres.

The Red Wave is Back

Soon after Christmas & New Year, shopping malls, hotels & shops begin to change its decoration theme color to red, because Chinese New Year is just about a month from now. Red lantern is certainly a must in all CNY decoration & plum blossom would further embellish the environment. Kinta City is ready to welcome the year of snake with a red wave at the center court. Time for festive shopping begins.

Storm Approaching

Kinta City's roof top car park is always one of my favorite locations to enjoy the view of Ipoh & its surrounding mountains. The wide angle view at every direction without many obstacles (except this Jusco tower signboard) offers us the best opportunity to observe beautiful scenery such as sunset, approaching storm & etc. I don't even remember how many photos I have captured at this angle in different time & the number of post appear here. Probably this can be an exercise of reviewing this blog.

City in the Haze

Continuous hot days has brought back the haze to Ipoh. When looking from Kinta City toward city center, the buildings almost missing from sight while we even hardly see clouds in the sky. This is certainly not a good feeling and I hope the situation will not continued for too long.

Best Thing To Do in the Warm Weekend

The subject of this post simply explains this photo appropriately. Weather in Ipoh for recent weeks is torturing; warm & humid while burning sunlight is baking everything on Earth int he afternoon. As seen in this photo, it's cloudless at the sky except some floating above the mountain range. Peoples are rushing into shopping centers to escape from the warm weather. And therefore you are seeing the car park of Kinta City Shopping Centre is full.

A Brighter Night of The City

As seen from the roof top car park of Kinta City Shopping Centre, Ipoh's city skyline at night is not brighter than in the past. Despite the spotlight of Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium had brightened up the skyline, colorful signs on high rise buildings in city center are also enhancing the charm of Ipoh night scene. As announced by the mayor last week, the city council has received request of constructing two new hotels at 20 storeys & 24 storeys respectively under the loosen DCA building height limit. If these projects turn true, Ipoh skyline at night should be much more attractive.

Relieved Kinta City

Since the opening of AEON Station 18, congestion at Kinta City Shopping Centre has been so much relieved. The crowd during weekend is obviously reduced and it makes the mall a more comfortable place for shopping & leisure. Now we can enjoy visiting Kinta City without much worry about the terrible jam in car park, long queue at cashiers, full house restaurants & squeezing inside the crowd.

Still Rainy Day

There have been few consecutive days with heavy raining at Ipoh. Several areas even suffer flash flood after downpour. Sometimes not only once but two rounds of heavy rain in a day. This is the scene after a downpour at about 2 hours ago. It seems there will be another round of rain anytime.

Another Great Sunset

Most of the people are still enjoying the new year holiday today. However, crowd at Kinta City has reduced & congestion is not seen at the roof top car park of the mall. It's a warm day & the sky is relatively clear compared to those rainy days last week. I just able to capture the moment of beautiful sunset.

Who Will Fix Me Back?

The road sign at traffic light junction in front of Kinta City Shopping Center is being knocked down by someone. It has been laying on the road divider for some time & I don't see the relevant department come to fix it back or replace a new one. This happen everywhere in the city. Apart from road signs, street lamp is also a usual victim of road accidents.

The Shopping Craze

Long holiday, what would be the most welcome activity in Ipoh? The answer is eating & shopping. Apart from enjoying tasty local food of Ipoh, spending time in shopping mall is almost a must. As there are only handful of shopping malls in Ipoh, they usually get crowded at this time. From the fully occupied car park, obviously Kinta City is one of the hottest spots attracting Ipoh citizens & visitors.

Usual Queue During Weekend

Shopping is probably one of the most popular activities of Malaysian. Unlike Kuala Lumpur & Penang, Ipoh has only few shopping malls where these places are always congested during weekend. And the traffic leading to these malls would also packed by cars. Just like this road, Jalan Merpati of Ipoh Garden. It will always seen with long queue heading to Kinta City Shopping Center. I am sure the residents along this road are getting quite annoyed with the heavy traffic right in front of their doorstep.

Undersea World In The Mall

An undersea world is created with balloons at the center court of Kinta City Shopping Center. This should be a playland specially made for the children to enjoy their school holiday. I arrive here quite early and the playland is not opened yet. Anyway, this undersea world will soon be crowded not by fishes or corals but the most energetic kids that never get tired when having fun. And one thing for sure, that's the time for parents to spend.

LED Billboard Again

Perhaps an animated advertisement displayed in an LED billboard would be much more attractive than a conventional board. This is the third of its kind in Ipoh right in front of Kinta City, probably one month after the installation of another unit just few hundred yards away from here. As I can see a banner on a metal post next to this LED board written "UV Media coming soon", it seems one more unit will be landed here.

The Brilliant Moment To Welcome 2011

During the first moment in year 2011, brilliant fireworks lighted up the skyline of Ipoh. Crowds gathered at Kinta City Shopping Center's roof top car park to witness the welcoming celebration of new year. When the moment zero hour reached, explosions in the sky cheers everyone. People at the roof top could enjoy a 270-degree view around the city and witness the flowery fireworks at different corners of the city, among those, government origanized fireworks at Greentown Ipoh Square (Dataran Ipoh) and Indera Mulia Stadium were the largest and longest. Although viewing from Kinta City was quite far, its beautifulness still amazed the audience. Nevertheless, the nearest firework explossions by nearby pubs shocked the crowd and won the applause.

Happy New Year 2011!!
