Kinta River is the mother river of Ipoh. Ipoh was first established at its west bank during the end of 19th century. The fast growing tin mining industry had boomed the development of this small town. To solve the congestion, bridges were built to cross over Kinta River at early 20th century and raised a new township on its east bank. That is the formation of the Old Town & New Town. In the modern day, this segregation is fading away under the rapid transportation & urban development. Many youngsters may not differentiate the Old Town & New Town but rather recognize both as the original city center.
