Baseball Match at D.R. Park

Talk about sports, perhaps we Malaysian are so familiar with badminton, football, basketball, tennis and hockey. It is rarely to see or hear someone is playing in baseball team. I always find baseball is popular in United States, Japan and Taiwan. Somehow today I bump into an event where several baseball teams are competing on the field of D.R. Park. It is fun to watch the matches and I can feel the youngsters are so energetic, and it reminds me of my wonderful teenage life too.

Egrets Flit Over The Lake

In a warm afternoon, I meet few egrets that are looking for food at lakeside in D.R. Park. When I try to approach closer, two of them fly away & flit over the lake. At the background, the old Waller Court Flat is seen. It seems egret able to live with human & we can always see them flying in "V" formation across the sky during morning & evening when driving on the road.

Rain Tree Shelter

Taiping Lake Garden is famous with its giant rain trees along the lakeside where some branches bent to touching the lake surface. In D.R. Park, there is also array of rain tree planted at the lakeside, just not as old as those in Taiping Lake Garden. Anyway, it still creates a shelter from the hot sun. Staying under the tree with breeze in the afternoon would be definitely an enjoyable and sleepy moment.

Japanese Stone Lantern

Stone lantern is a unique feature in Japanese landscape garden. It appears in many styles as a decorative item in the garden and is very charming when lightened up at night. Normally the stone lantern stands among green plants or beside the pond. Some designs are simple and neat, but there are also carved with animals, plants or characters. The Japanese Garden in D.R. Park which is a joint development by Ipoh and its sister city, Fukuoka, has these beautiful stone lanterns.

Shaded Under The Tree

It cannot be denied that trees is the best shade to avoid from hot sun & cooling the temperature of earth. The layers of leaves are filtering or even absorbing the heat. However, we are cutting trees without proper control to give way for development. Therefore we have to suffer the climates change that brings warmer and distorted weather condition. I hope we will replant more trees & implement more green factors in all future developments.

Lakeside Flowers

This scene really make me think of Japan. The Japanese Garden in D.R. Park is nicely designed. It should be a join effort with Ipoh sister city, Fukuoka. I wish to share more photos of this garden in the future since I like it so much. There is another Japanese Garden near Perak Turf Club which established long time ago. I have not been there for decades. I will find a day to take a look over there and to recall my childhood memory because it was another popular public recreation park in the years of 1970's other than D.R. Park.

Energy Saving in the Park

Some lamps in D.R. Seenivasagam Park are using energy saving light bulb. Many public lighting facilities in the city have been using this kind of bulb. This is a good move and shall be an example for all, from individual to commercial, to practice energy saving in any possible aspect.

Back to D.R. Park

D.R. Seenivasagam Park (usually mentioned in short as D.R. Park), was initially called Coronation Park, is the biggest green heart in Ipoh city center. It is named after the famous local politician who was the Ipoh councilor & MP in 1960's. It used to be the most popular public park in the city. I believe almost all Ipoh citizens who born in 1960's & 70's visited this park and have sweetest memory on the beautiful lake & the zigzag bridge. There were also landscaping, plants that cut in animal shape, fountain, manmade streams & the bicycle track that complete with traffic signs. Although some of these had disappeared & replaced with new structure, the park is still a relaxing & refreshing place to ease the busy life in city. Visitor coming to D.R. Park nowadays is getting lesser compare to 3 decades ago. People are migrating to the suburban & there are new parks established around the city. Yet this park is not kept in tiptop condition to serve the best facilities to visitors. Nevertheless, D.R. Park still presents its beauty by nature with the plants & lake.
