Times Square Ipoh

I bet there are still many Ipoh citizen do not aware that we have already got a Times Square in the city. It is, indeed not a new commercial centre but just renamed from previous 1-Casuarina by Team Keris. Anyway, for a place that carry the name "Times Square", it is always a landmark of trendy, elegance and glamorous. And this commercial park is certainly not on par with our expectation.

A Flowery Pine Tree

Although I know very little about plants and trees but I am pretty sure pine tree do not bloom with flowers as seen in this photo. It really draws my attention when I drove by Gopeng Road and find this phenomena at the first time. When approach closer, I realize it is indeed a giant bougainvillea tree growing against the pine tree that give us this unusual scene.

Landmark at Kampar Road

This is a view from Gopeng Road's Impiana Hotel towards south. The scene is dominated by the condominium blocks of Damaipuri and The Store Supermarket which are the landmark buildings along Kampar Road. The residential hiding in the green trees, Chateau Garden, is one of the best living environments in Ipoh.

The End of A Busy Day

Although this is a Friday, it's a busy day for me. Apart from the heavy work load, the warm & humid weather at the valley also tear off a lot of my energy. When everything start settled down, darkness already covered the city & lights are on under the sunset.

Artistic Lamp Post

The night in Ipoh become more charming with these artistic lamp post along Gopeng Road. It was installed several months ago from the Sultan Idris Shah Roundabout till the flyover at Tiger Lane. The "Y" shaped post is decorated with flowery pattern & a lighted Perak Coat of Arms. The array of these beautiful posts on the street is a best welcoming scene to all visitors entering Ipoh city from south. And when I drove along Tiger Lane recently, the entire road is also installed with these artistic lamp posts.

Coliseum Square

This 7-storey building rose from ground near to the Casuarina Hotel last year. Many were wondering what it would be. Later during end of year 2009, the answer revealed. The building, namely Coliseum Square belongs to a famous restaurant throughout the nation. It comprises of several banquet halls & ballrooms at ground floor & 2 top most floor; floors in between are car park. Although there are few well known restaurants in Ipoh has rose its standard & moved into larger stand alone buildings, but this is the first one occupying such a big building. Looks like the catering industry in this city has entered a new era & the competition is getting tougher.

Cloudless Days

The elder generations always mention during Chinese New Year, weather would become hot. It used to be true but not for the past few years. We all said the weather changed due to the human activities have damaged the atmosphere. However, the typical hot days return this year. For weeks, it seemed to be cloudness on top of us. Clouds are only seen at the horizon, I wonder how far they are from me. Direct sunlight is burning everything on ground. I guess everyone is hoping we have more trees to provide shades for us...... Well, we had forgotten who chopped them down.

The Casuarina Ipoh Hotel

Ipoh citizens must be very familiar with this hotel that was once called The Royal Casuarina Hotel. Completed around 1986, the hotel was the most luxury hotel at that time (believed to be 5-star rated). The most unique part is the Malay style extended block, so called Bumbung Lima. With more hotels established recently, Casuarina Hotel still not lost it’s attraction especially with the opening of 1-Casuarina Cooperate Park adjacent to it.

More detail of the hotel can be obtained from the following contact & website:

Vases on Gopeng Road

It did not come to my mind that vases can be used as street decoration. In fact the outcome of this idea is marvelous because it brings up the unique local product of Perak state. Each of these vases has a bulb within & displays an attractive scene when lighted up at night in sync with the lighting effect of trees. The vases are placed along Gopeng Road from the roundabout to the flyover crossing Tiger Lane at about 2km away.

One Casuarina

The newly completed commercial blocks and retail shops that is just next to The Casuarina Hotel, so called One Casuarina. The two 6-storey main blocks are facing Gopeng Road (Jalan Raja Nazrin Shah). One is occupied by the developer while another block houses a recreation club. Shops at its back many are still vacant, only a Japanese restaurant & a Muslim restaurant are open for business. A sculpture, which I believe to be made in bronze, is placed at the main entrance. Such concept has been quite commonly presented in cities around the world but it’s only kind of a beginning in Ipoh.
