This communication tower is standing in the middle of New Town for many years. However, most of the Ipoh citizen do not pay attention to it because of its simple outlook. It is among the tallest man made objects in town, reaching approximately the height of a 17-storey building.

Lau Ek Ching Street
Lau Ek Ching Street is a short street in New Town. It is not directly connected to main roads in the city but is surrounded by few main roads in New Town, such as Anderson Road, Cowan Street, Green Lane & Clare Street. This is not a popular street. Currently there are antique shop, boutique, properties developer office & legal firm, while some are still vacant. Shop houses over here still maintained with its old style & beautiful wall decoration. It is, in fact, a suitable spot to be a walking street for café, restaurant & fashion shop.

After a Little Rain
The most common word we use since the last few weeks is “hot”. It has been many sunny days until this afternoon. The day turned cloudy after lunch time and rain for a short while soon after that. Anyway, the small rain did not cool down the environment but unleash the heat at ground and make the condition warmer and more humid.

The OCBC Bank Building
This is main branch of OCBC Bank in Ipoh. The building was originally known as The Straits House and had been occupied by different owners. It was once left vacant before OCBC Bank moved in. The tower is an iconic feature of the building. Located just few yards from the Town Hall, but at a lower ground, the building is not as outstanding as Town Hall. Anyway, this is one of my favorite buildings in town.

Nam Chau Coffee Shop
Nam Chau (南洲) is a traditional coffee shop in Old Town. I had my first visit to the shop this week and its white coffee simply attracted me. It is slightly different from my favourite Sin Yoon Loong white coffee but the thicker coffee with smooth creamer gives a different taste. The shop is renovated displaying a cleaner & tidier environment. Anyway, the wooden ceiling that typically found in old shops still maintained.

If I Own This Building...
I have been observing this heritage building for long time. I can see its beauty although it is under poor condition. Several western style heritage buildings at its surrounding are occupied and well maintained. Its poor fate is just like me, being forgotten in the crowd. Well, if I own this building, I will make it a western restaurant at ground floor, a musical lounge at first floor & a coffee house with small individual compartments at second floor. I hope it will provide a private, peaceful & relaxing environment with soft & sentimental background music. A poor guy dream…..

Colourful Background
Sometimes the colourful clouds during sunset appear like aurora. It makes the railway station more attractive with this beautiful background. Usually this scene not last long, may be just for few minutes and the sky would start turning dark. The combination of classical building & colourful sunset is always my favourite.
